West Bengal gets ₹2.35 lakh crore worth proposals

January 21, 2017 10:11 pm | Updated 10:11 pm IST - KOLKATA:

The third edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit closed with proposals worth ₹2.35 lakh crore being received by the State government. Proposals for co-operation in sectors such as mining and green cities were received from Poland and South Korea.

“We do not believe in making big announcements of ₹50- ₹60 lakh crores...we will tell you only about doable projects,” Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said after her finance minister Amit Mitra announced the projects. “Even in these days of demonetisation and ‘remonetisation,’ we have attracted several proposals.. this is enough for us,” she said.

“Fructification of proposals is more important than mere ‘paper proposals,” she said in an indirect reference to such claims being made by other states.

Ms. Banerjee said work has begun on 40% of the projects announced in the last two summits.
