With an aim to sell 13 lakh flat panel units during the current financial year, electronics major Sony, on Tuesday, said it would invest Rs.250 crore for marketing of its products.
The company at present has a share of 30 per cent in the flat panel segment that is estimated at 60 lakh units.
“We aim to sell 13 lakh television sets in the current fiscal…Sony has increased the marketing spend to Rs.250 crore for FY 13,” Sony India Managing Director Kenichiro Hibi said.
Sony India had sales of 11 lakh units in the previous financial year, while the marketing budget was Rs.150 crore.
The company will add 1,000 more sales channel counters this year to its distribution network of 6,000 sales counters.
“A part of our investment will go into expanding our reach. We’ll add 1,000 more sales channel counter during the year to take the number to 7,000,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sony on Tuesday launched two new products in its high-end 4k technology series priced at Rs.3.04 lakh (for 55 inches) and Rs.4.04 lakh (for 65 inches), targeting customers in the metros.
The company will also launch a 24 inch model under the 4k series next month. It will be priced upwards of Rs.50,000-60,000.
For 2013, Sony will launch 20 new Bravia models, including under the 4k series. Bravia contributes 35 per cent to Sony India sales, at present.
