Analog to beef up headcount

Semiconductor company Analog Devices India Pvt. Ltd., plans to add about 60 designers this year or 20 per cent to its local team of 305, according to its senior officials here.

Its Indian business for signal conversion chips caters to a large extent to defence and aerospace activities, the defence public enterprises, research labs and the space programme.

The additions to the headcount would support activities of its global design houses and centres of excellence as the domestic business was growing at 20 per cent a year, Managing Director Somshubhro Pal Choudhury said here on Monday.

Currently, it also uses about 120 external staff from other design houses.

The Indian outfit is ADI’s second largest design centre outside the U.S. after Ireland, Jon Bentley, the Massachusetts-based company’s Segment Regional Marketing Director for Industry & Instrumentation, said.

Mr. Bentley, who is visiting Bengaluru and Hyderabad this week, said last year’s $2-billion acquisition of Hittite Microwave Corp. had enormously expanded Analog’s strengths in radio frequency, testing and measurement.

Its technologies are used in military radars, electronic warfare devices, software-defined radios meant for safe and coded military communication and smart systems built for soldiers.

Satellite transponders were another growing area of interest as space activities increased in the country, said C.M. Menon, Regional Sales Director, India.
