Reliance Group to set up Aerospace Park in Nagpur

Maharashtra allots 289 acres, Reliance to invest Rs.6,500 crore

Aiming big in defence production, Anil Ambani led Reliance Group has announced plans to invest over Rs.6,500 crore in setting up an aerospace park at Nagpur.

The Maharashtra Government on Friday allotted 289 acres in Mihan SEZ, Nagpur to Reliance Group firm Reliance Aerostructure Ltd which will undertake this project named Dhirubhai Ambani Aerospace Park (DAAP).

The land allotment letter was handed over to the company at a ceremony in Nagpur which was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani.

“There will be a long journey for development of Nagpur and Vidharba region. We started on June 16, 2015 with first presentation and in less than 10 weeks we got the land. This is a record,” said Mr. Ambani.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is steering the Make-in-India campaign which is encouraging private sector participation. We are deeply committed to Defence sector. Our first acquisition was Pipavav. This Aerospace Park at Mihan will be the largest Greenfield project not only in India but in South East Asia,” he added.

The site in Mihan was selected after an extensive survey of different sites across various states.

“Mihan was selected over other sites because of its world class facilities and infrastructure such as Medi City, , disciplined work culture, airfield and air space for flight tests, proximity to international airport, excellent telecommunications connectivity and social infrastructure among others,” Reliance Group said. At this Aerospace Park, Reliance Group is planning to set up assembly lines and manufacturing facilities of fixed wing aircrafts, aero structure for commercial transport aircraft, helicopters for both defence and commercial use.

“DAAP will also develop cluster of strategic business units with Tier I, II and III supply chain and other sub-assembly lines. The park will also house ancillary and component manufacturing units to support after sales requirement,” Reliance Group said.

The Aerospace Park is expected to create 1,500 jobs in the primary sector, around 3,500 in the secondary and 5,000 jobs in the tertiary sector respectively, Reliance Group said.

“This will be the largest Greenfield project in aerospace industry with the capital investment of over Rs.6,500 crore. To be developed on the lines of Smart City layout, DAAP will offer one-stop hub for all the aerospace requirements,” Reliance Group said.

Reliance Group believes that Global OEMs in Defence and Aerospace platforms and components would set shop at this park.
