Targeting the upper middle class and middle class in India, lighting solution provider Philips Lighting has launched its latest solution in India.
The solution termed Philips Hue is an intelligent web-based LED lighting solution with Internet of Things concept, which allows users to control home lighting anytime, anywhere.
Philips Hue allows users to create and control home lighting using their smartphone or tablet and works seamlessly across both iOS and android mobile platforms. The Philips Hue range for India includes Hue starter kit, which includes the bridge and three hue lamps starting at Rs.16,995.
“In India, the concept of lighting is changing, it is becoming part of lifestyle products. With the new Hue range, we are focusing more on the people who are looking at high-end luminaires. With our technology, people will change the way people have experienced and interacted with lighting till now,” said Harsh Chitale, CEO, Philips Lighting-South Asia.
According to industry estimate, high end luminaires market in India is pegged at Rs.3,000 crore. As part of the initial roll-out plan, Philips will showcase the new solutions in its ‘Light Lounge’ and online e-commerce portals.
The app for Philips hue also features four pre-programmed lighting settings based on Philips’ research around the biological effects that lighting has on the body. Philips has over 140 Light Lounges across various cities in India.
Apart from Light Lounges, it will sell the Hue solution through Croma and Reliance Digital stores. It has also partnered Snapdeal as an exclusive online partner.
When asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national programme for LED bulbs for domestic and street-lighting in 100 cities by March, 2016, Mr. Chitale said, his company had already provided 1.5 crore LED lamps to the government.
“In energy efficiency programmes government should make standards and also should make it mandatory to follow. We are working as a industry to make that happen,” added Mr. Chitale.
Recently, the company has expanded its manufacturing units in India to meet the growing demand both in domestic market and export market.
The LED products made in its facilities in Mohali and Baroda are exported to 24 different countries in Latin America, Africa and East Asian countries.
