Marginal rise in rubber output

Natural rubber output has increased by 4.2 per cent to 8.42 lakh tonnes (provisional) in April-February 2011-12 from 8.08 lakh tonnes in April-February 2010-11, according to Rubber Board data.

Production during February fell marginally to 57,100 tonnes from 57,600 tonnes during the year-ago period.

Consumption of natural rubber has gone up to 8.80 lakh tonnes in the 11 months under review from 8.68 lakh tonnes in the same period in the previous year.

Carryover stock at the end of February 2012 was 2.44 lakh tonnes against 3.15 lakh tonnes in the year-ago month.

Import of natural rubber is slightly higher at 1.85 lakh tonnes during the 11 months of the current financial year against 1.83 lakh tonnes in the year-ago period and exports at 24,586 tonnes against 21,908 tonnes.
