Terming India as ‘strategically important’ market for the company, HTC South Asia President Jack Yang on Thursday said this market provided immense opportunities for the Taiwanese handset maker and was already among its top two markets in the South Asia region.

Talking to The Hindu on the sidelines of a conference for the launch of its two new devices — the Desire 616 and HTC One (E8) — priced at Rs.16,900 and Rs.34,990, respectively, Mr. Yang said, “India ranks among the top two countries in South Asia for us. Growth wise, sales volumes have tripled for us here. The opportunities here are phenomenal. Market is exploding across all segments.”

HTC at present has a market share of about 5 per cent and is targeting to increase it to 15 per cent, its Country Head India Faisal Siddiqui said. He, however, did not to comment on the timeline.

Meanwhile, the company announced that its One (E8) will be available in the market from the end of this month, while Desire 616 will start selling this week.

HTC One (E8) is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core processor and 2GB RAM. It comes with 16GB internal storage and a microSD card slot that supports memory cards of up to 128GB. It sports a 5-inch Full-HD with 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system and comes with a 2600mAh battery.

On the other hand, the Desire 616 comes with a 5-inch HD display. It is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core processor and has 1GB RAM, along with 4GB internal storage and a microSD card slot that supports cards of up to 32GB. It comes with an 8MP rear and 2 MP front camera as well as a 2,000 mAh battery.
