Honda Cars begins production from Tapukara plant

Honda Cars India on Monday inaugurated its second manufacturing facility in the country at Alwar in Rajasthan, a move that will double its production capacity in India.

The plant, built at an investment of Rs 3,526 crore, has a production capacity of 1.2 lakh cars per annum, taking the company’s total production in the country to 2.4 lakh cars per annum. The new manufacturing facility will employ about 3,200 people.

Honda Cars’ other manufacturing facility is at Greater Noida, near national capital.

“India is an important market for Honda and with the beginning of car production at Tapukara plant, we are advancing our commitment to expand Honda’s business in India,” Yoshiyuki Matsumoto, Managing Officer, Honda Motor Co. Ltd., Japan said.

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) President and CEO Hironori Kanayama said this plant will help the company realise the target of selling 3 lakh units in the country by 2016-17.

The company, which had sold 73,000 units in 2012-13, has already sold one lakh units in the current fiscal (April 2013- January 2014).
