Epson to align with IT firms to fight competition in MPS space

June 20, 2013 11:38 pm | Updated 11:38 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Epson India is actively looking to piggyback on the system integration businesses of IT firms such as Wipro and HCL, and is currently in discussions with several companies, to counter Xerox and Ricoh’s managed print services strategy.

Managed print services (MPS) is a fast-growing field in India. It involves providing print solutions and managing hardcopy devices such as copiers, printers and other multi-function devices.

“We believe MPS is still a very nascent area, and, as such, are not into it here in India. Our answer to MPS is to have some of our best inkjet printers become a part of the MPS solution aspect of some SI businesses. We’re talking to several firms like Infosys in this regard. We’re also talking to other general SIs,” said S.M. Ramprasad, Deputy General Manager, Consumer Products Group, Epson India.

He was addressing reporters here on Thursday at the launch of the company’s new M-series range of ‘Mono Ink Tank Inkjet’ printers.

This power-efficient range is aimed at the office segment, and comes with a promise of printing one page for just 12 paise. “This new M series that we launched today eliminates, in a way, the need for MPS at all. This is because its efficiency make up for the need to reduce costs through a separate print managing solution,” Mr. Ramprasad added.
