The Sahaganj unit of Dunlop India , closed since October 8, 2011, may reopen soon.

It is learnt that a tripartite pact has been signed to pave the way for reopening the unit. The meeting was held at the behest of West Bengal Labour Minister Moloy Ghatak.

The unit, which once rolled out premium tyres, industrial conveyor belts, and other industrial rubber products, employs 800 people.

The reopening is likely to be a phased one.

While a string of industrial units have been under suspension of work, throwing out of job thousands, the Labour Minister has been making all-out efforts to have them re-opened before the Durga Puja festival beginning September 30.

It is learnt that the Dunlop reopening could happen on September 25. The management has been asked to pay Rs.5,000 towards the first instalment of the wage arrears to existing employees as also a certain sum to the kith and kin of deceased employees.

The company said that the initiatives taken by the Labour Minister had paved the way for reopening of Dunlop India Ltd.

“Today in a meeting chaired by the Minister a tripartite agreement has been reached for reopening the Sahaganj plant for refurbishment followed by commencement of production in a phased manner.

“The management expects the plant to reopen shortly”, a statement from the Ruia group said.
