The Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) will be setting up an online resource centre in Toronto that would become functional by March, said its president Naval Bajaj on Sunday.
Leading a 60-member business delegation to 11 Indian cities to explore business and investment opportunities, he said the online resource centre would be a one-stop shop for Canadian trade and businessmen to learn about the opportunities that are available in India.
Later addressing the members of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at ‘Canada-Tamil Nadu Bilateral Trade and Investment Conference’, he said the delegates were primarily focused on four main areas — agri-food processing, infrastructure, renewable energy and education.
While urging the 1.2 million Indian diaspora in Canada to make use of the opportunity to help both the nations to triple the bilateral trade from 5 billion Canadian dollars in 2011, to 15 billion Canadian dollars by 2015, he said at the current level the trade volume was very small and called for signing of Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) at the earliest.
N.K. Ranganath, past chairman, CII Tamil Nadu, said, “The delegates are visiting Tamil Nadu after a gap of 37 years and this showed that Canadian businessmen are looking at India, especially Tamil Nadu. We should capitalise and use this opportunity for converting it into a major business proposition.”
Joe Daniel, Canada Member of Parliament, said that the aim of the trade mission was to convert dialogues into dollars.
