The Principal Sessions Court in Chennai has dismissed the anticipatory bail application moved by Stayzilla’s co-promoter Sachit Singhi.

The issue pertains to a case registered against the promoters of Stayzilla based on a complaint filed by C.S. Aditya of Jigsaw Advertising and Solutions Private Ltd for allegedly defaulting on payments for services rendered.

An FIR was registered against Yogendra Vasupal and Sachit Singhi for offences under sections 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (Cheating), 506 (i) (Criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

On March 14, Mr. Vasupal was arrested and remanded to judicial custody while the second accused Mr. Singhi went absconding. On April 11, Mr. Vasupal secured bail from the Madras High Court after agreeing to deposit ₹40 lakh.

Two days later, Mr. Singhi moved the Principal Sessions Court seeking anticipatory bail. When the plea came up on Thursday, City Public Prosecutor M.L. Jegan, pointing out that Mr. Vasupal had deposited ₹40 lakh as a condition for his bail, said, “Let the second accused deposit the remaining disputed amount and we have no objection in granting him bail.” As Mr. Singhi’s counsel submitted that they were not in a position to deposit the amount, the Principal Sessions Judge Nazeema Banu recorded the prosecution’s opposition and dismissed the application.
