Another small dose of hike in petrol, diesel prices

Further increasing the burden on the common man, the Central government has hiked the commission paid to petrol pump dealers, thus raising the price of petrol by 27 paise a litre and that of diesel by 15 paise that would come into effect from Thursday midnight.

The government approved a hike in the dealers' commission paid on petrol from Rs.1,218 a kilolitre to Rs.1,499. In the case of diesel, it has been hiked from Rs.757 a kilolitre to Rs.912.

The government recently raised the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs.5 and Rs.3 respectively.

Government sources said an expert committee of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had recommended an increase of 39.5 paise a litre in the dealers commission for petrol by and that of diesel by 17 paise.
