They believed in their common passion for writing, despite coming from different professional backgrounds, engineering, management, banking and homemaking, and took up the challenge presented by Unisun Publications to participate in the 2009-2010 Writing Competition. And they won!

Winners of the Unisun Publication, in association with Reliance Time Out, Writing Competition 2009-2010 were recently felicitated in the city. The winners were selected under three categories: children's fiction, short story and poetry. Geralyn Pinto and Preetha Rajahkannan jointly won the first prize for “Two is company” and “the lost and found smile”, respectively. Nabina Das, based in the United States, won the first prize in the poetry category. Matthew P. Joseph, an IT professional, won second prize for his poem, “Night”. Special mention was also made of the works of Shweta Prakash, Ammu Nalapath, Java Ojha and Shruti Rao. It was indeed a moment of pride for both the winners and their families.

The felicitation programme was followed by a dramatised reading of extracts from the prize winning stories and poems, including a visual presentation of the award-winning children's stories. The extracts were read out eloquently by the prize-winning authors and poets. The range of stories from the intimate and nostalgic and the gripping to the thought-provoking enthralled the audience.

Three volumes of the prize-winning entries, “Timescapes”, a collection of poetry, “Two is company” and “The lost and found smile” of the prize-winning entries were launched at the event by the three chief guests, Ambika Ananth, Dr. Lakshmi and Keerti Ramachandra.

Unisun Publication's Writing Competition 2010-2011 was also announced at the event.
