Sarah Aboobacker is a popular Kannada novelist, essayist and translator. Some of her noted works include Chandragiriya Teeradalli (Chandragiri Prakashana) (and the English translation by Vanamala Vishwanath, Breaking Ties ), and her autobiography, Hottu Kanthuva Munna (Chandragiri Prakashana). She has also translated six major works from Malayalam to Kannada. Her novels deal with the trials and tribulations in the lives of Muslims living in Karnataka, and she is known for boldly writing about the difficulties and injustices faced by women in these situations. Sara has won several awards, including the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi award of honour, the Karnataka Rajyotsava award, and the Daana Chintamani Attimabbe award from the Karnataka Government. Most recently, she was the recipient of the prestigious 2012 Nriphathunga Sahitya Prasasthi by the BMTC, Bangalore, under the auspices of the Government of Karnataka. Since 1994, she has been publishing her work under her own banner, Chandragiri Prakashana.
Sarah Aboobacker will speak at a session - South of the Vindhyas: Stories from the Southern States - in Chennai on February 16, 2013 at the Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall in Lady Andal School.
