You can teach a student a lesson for a day but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives. These lines exemplify the approach of Geeta Dharmarajan, a storyteller who believes that quality learning is the best way to let children realise their potential. The latest from the noted author of books like “Dinosaur-Long-as-127-Kids”, “Moon Ramu and I”, “Daddoo's Day Out” to name a few, is ready with “Oh No Not Again!”
“We are trying to bring children to the habit of reading. Today children are not interested in reading maybe because we are not providing them the right books,” says the author. Commenting on the book, Geeta says, “‘Oh No Not Again!' is a fun book and it has every single thing that children do or they are interested in. It is about a queen of Dhamdhoom Nagar who loves cricket and is the best bowler but keeps on losing her temper.”
She adds that the book is exciting and loaded with humour, meant for children aged between six and nine years. “It can be used as lap time reading, classroom reading or the children reading by themselves.”
Geeta's narrative is complemented by the attractive artwork by Rajiv Eipe. The illustrations are humorous. The theme based on cricket is likely to appeal to kids, especially with its picture book format. The characters seem the kind with whom kids can identify.
The layout of the book scores another point. Short paragraphs instead of large chunks and few words on a page are some of the ways the publisher has devised to get the attention of the little ones. The book will be launched at The Katha Storyshop by former cricketer Madan Lal on March 31. A storytelling session and cricket quiz will take place on the occasion. The book is available in Hindi and English and is priced at Rs.275.
