A book of Hindi and Urdu poems called Salwatein by debutant author Shaily Aggarwal was launched recently by cricketer Gautam Gambhir.

The book includes poems written in Hinglish — a colloquial usage of English words mixed with Hindi. The objective behind writing Hinglish poetry, she said, was to attract youngsters to poetry.

The book includes an audio disc with recordings of verses recited by her. The poems are about love, hope and thoughts, she said.

Shaily is an astrologer by profession.

Though she doesn’t have any academic qualification in Urdu, she is confident about the Urdu verses in her book.

“I have been around many Urdu speaking people and I feel that this language is very beautiful. Though there can be differences in pronunciation, the feeling is always the same, and I want to put through that feeling through the poems,” maintains Shaily.

Gambhir was all praise for her effort.

“I’ve gone through some of the pages of the book and all I want to say is that she should keep writing such great poems for us,” he said.
