Web too blocks Doniger’s book

February 13, 2014 01:55 am | Updated December 04, 2021 11:26 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

American Indologist Wendy Doniger’s book The Hindus: An Alternative History , withdrawn from the Indian market by Penguin India, became inaccessible online on Wednesday.

The cyberworld blackout came amid indications that the Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti, which forced the book's withdrawal, would soon file a case against Aleph Book Company for publishing another book by the author. People took to the Internet to download it on Tuesday, but could not do so on Wednesday. A message on online shopping site Amazon said, “Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available.”
