Padma Ramachandran rendered a vocal concert at the 64th monthly music festival of the Tiruchi Tamil Isai Sangam held at the Tamil Sangam hall recently.
Padma commenced her concert with ‘Malaikottai Ganapathi' of Tiruchi Pa Rathan in Hamsadhwani, Adi tala. It was followed by ‘Karunalaya Nidhiye' of Vedanayagam Pillai in Hindolam. She took up raga Shanmukhapriya as her main and rendered ‘Bavasagaram Karai Eralam' kriti of Gopalakrishna Bharati with elaborate raga alapana.
Choice of kritis
‘Enna Kavi Paadinaro' of Madurai Somasundaram in the Neelamani raga, ‘Chinnan Chiru Kiliye' of Subramania Bharati in ragamalika, ‘Iniya Tamizh Mozhi' of Bharatidasan in Behag and ‘Eppadi Paadinaro' of Suddhananda Bharathi in Karnataka Devagandhari were the other kritis that were rendered.
Padma concluded her concert with a ‘Tiruppugazh' in Revathi. She was accompanied by Shertalai M.N. Sathyamoorthy on the violin, Koppu G. Nagaraj on the mridangam and Chidambaram A. Rajendran on the morsing.
The Tiruchi Tamil Isai Sangam conferred the title ‘Tamizhisai Vani' on Padma Ramachandran on the occasion. A. Ramachandran, professor of Tamil, Thiagaraja Pillai Teacher Training Institute, Thillainagar, Tiruchi, was the chief guest. L.N. Lekshmanan, industrialist and president of the Tiruchi Tamil Isai Sangam and others offered felicitations.
