A concert featuring the well-known Bangalore-based band Lounge Piranha, with bands The Bicycle Days and Mumbai-based Rosemary will perform in the city on May 8.
“Bicycle Days had a brilliant performance at Strawberry fields (a concert held in the city last year), I love the fact that their music touches sensitive subjects such as religious intolerance,” said Nadia Henry, a fan. Bicycle Days will kick off the concert, followed by Rosemary from Mumbai an alternative rock band who are influenced by ambient and 60's psychedelic music, and bagged the TFA Music Award in 2010. Rosemary is currently working on an album which they hope will come close to a live performance. Finally, Lounge Piranha the post rock band, which won the TFA music Award in 2007 will play. They recently played at the Fireflies Festival in the city and in late 2008 released their first album, “Going Nowhere”. Abhijeet Tambe, guitarist/vocalist, says we can expect their next album later this year.
The concert is part of Pigflower Presents, a platform created by Lounge Piranha to promote independent music in the city. This initiative is supported by TFA (Toto Fund the Arts), a non-profit organisation that works to promote music and the arts. Each concert features two or three bands, some from the city and some from outside, with Lounge Piranha headlining the show. The concerts are free from corporate sponsorship and earn revenue through tickets. Earlier this year, Hyberabad-based alternative band Native Tongue, Bangalore-based musician Gowri, and Lounge Piranha performed at the Alliance Francaise, as part of Pigflower Presents, where they met an audience of more than 200 people. “Kamal — guitarist and singer of the group— and I came up with this idea to promote independent music in Bangalore when we were in Bombay a couple of years ago. We're happy with the response we've got and plan to have concerts like this every two or three months,” said Abhijjet Thambe, also guitarist and singer for Lounge.
The concert will be held at Kyra in Indiranagar. The bands will sell CDs, t-shirts, and comics at the concert. Tickets will be Rs. 200 each, of which Rs. 100 will be redeemable at the bar. Tickets will be available at Pecos, off Brigade Road, Stones, 100 Ft. Road Indiranagar, Herbs and Spices, 80 Ft. Road, Indiranagar, Cafe Thulp in Kormangala, apart from tickets being sold at the venue. The concert begins at 7 p.m. For details, call Navneet 9632203333.
