The journey from Chandigarh to Mumbai is precisely of 10,22 miles, takes around 22 hours. But for Ayushman Khurana, it was a struggle of eight years in the city of dream chasers, Mumbai, to become a roadie, a veejay, and finally, an actor and also a singer. Ayushman was noticed and appreciated by both critics and cinema-goers for his role in Vicky Donor. Elated post his nomination at Global Indian Music Awards recently, the actor here talks about how he has readied his body for the new challenge.

The 27-year-old says what works for him is that he eats everything that is on his plate. Jogging and running have always done the job of keeping him fit, he adds. “Gymming also plays an important role but I won’t suggest excessive gymming to people. I have always tried to maintain a good balance between working in the gym and walking in the park and it has helped me to stay fit.”

Ayushman says he has had a hectic schedule lately but he makes sure he doesn’t miss his workout. “There are days when I have to be up for 12 hours for a shoot. During those days, I carry dumbbells and a skipping rope with me to the sets. It is not possible to do cardio on the sets as it leads to heavy sweating. So, I do weights in my vanity van,” says the actor, who made his big screen debut with his last release Vicky Donor .

There are days when we can’t avoid pampering our taste buds with fat-heavy food. He tells his side of the story, “I have a terrible sweet tooth. So for me, it is impossible to control that urge to have fat rich delicacies. But the best part is that I have a good metabolism as well. A good workout balances it out for me.”

Having played Under-19 district level cricket, Ayushman is quite a sportsperson. Ask him about how he would keep up with the need to alter the physique according to the character and he says, “Till now I have played characters that portray me as a regular guy who is not supposed to be puffed up. But if I get to play the role of a boxer or probably someone who is muscular, I don’t think it would be much of a problem as I put on muscles very easily.”

Ayushman will soon be seen in his next film Hamara Bajaj where he plays a struggling actor.
