Actress Sithara

Sithara, the Malayalam actress' repertoire includes a few Telugu films like Manasu Mamata and Narasimha, Sambhavami Yuge Yuge, Sneham Kosam and the forthcoming Gudu Gudu Gunjam in which she is paired opposite Rajendra Prasad. She's more known for her work in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada films. The pretty actress who had been very choosy about her subjects, had worked on her terms and conditions is getting married this year. Ask her if she has found her dream man finally, Sithara is upright and very straight, “There is no Mr. Right, we have to make adjustments in life.”

Sithara is still the same, she hasn't put on any weight, she is still playing the traditional and conservative roles and has no regrets. Sithara was introduced by Usha Kiron Movies in 1991. She was in college and waslearning Mohiniattam in a dance school in Kerala when she was offered Kaveri, her debut movie. The producers of the film were in search of a new girl and they learnt about Sithara from her dance teacher and her music director Dakshina Murthy explained to her father that it was a film based on classical music, which simplified her entry into films. Her friends, and the principal supported her and then she faced the camera with stalwarts like Mamooty, Mohanlal and Nedumudi Venu.

With both her parents working and on frequent transfers, she lived in a boarding school and hardly got to watch films except when she'd go home for a vacation.

She stopped her studies after plus two and says whatever she has learnt today about the world, is all from books, travel and meeting people. She did want to pursue her studies but she had one offer after another.

She adds, “I wanted to do medicine, as I was good in science but there was something else in store for me. G Aravindan another popular director who made Chidambaram with Smita Patil came to the sets while I was shooting for my first film, told my father that he wanted to cast me opposite Vineet for his upcoming movie. I was apprehensive but he convinced my folks and we shot for ten days during the summer vacation. The second film released before the first.”

It was only then Sithara started taking her work seriously and decided to settle down in movie field.

She says she developed interest gradually and enjoyed the entire process of acting, and rates her work with K Balachandran in Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal as one of her best in her career. She says, “I would watch all my films and correct my flaws religiously, thanks to my parents I never got carried away and also was never overtly ambitious. Was content with the work I was doing. As a person I have never changed, the only thing I missed was my dancing classes. I wish I could go back and re learn.” Sithara, the star has been aptly named. It's been more than two decades before the camera but the actress is evergreen.

Her next film with Rajendra Prasad is Gudu Gudu Gunjam directed by Veeru is gearing up for release.
