Serbian residents in the town of Mitrovica in Kosovo last week replaced a barricade on a bridge over River Ibar, separating their part of the town from the Albanian part, with flower pots. For observers, this symbolic gesture was considered a positive sign in the thawing of the frosty relationship between Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo. Yet, reality is far from that. A week later, tensions have in fact increased between the communities resulting in clashes between Albanians and police forces near the place. Perhaps, history has prevailed to rekindle the tensions between these two groups in the region.
