Sachin Tendulkar said all records were meant to be broken and he would be happy if his marks were bettered by an Indian.
He was speaking at a felicitation function organised by the Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, here on Friday.
“I have always loved Chennai for its discipline. Whether it’s a memorable day for you or not, it definitely will be a memorable day for me,” a press release quoted Tendulkar as saying in response to a rousing welcome from 15,000 students of the Velammal Group of Schools.
The maestro, besides unveiling the foundation stone of the Velammal Cricket Academy, felicitated 480 students of the school for their accomplishments in academics and sports at the National and International levels.
Tendulkar, accompanied by wife Anjali, urged the students to “never give up.” He added that only tough people survived tough times.
Looking at a family photograph of his that was displayed on the premises, the 40-year-old said he was reminded of his childhood days when his father advised him to ‘be a good human being and lead a simple life’.
Tendulkar named Sunil Gavaskar and Vivian Richards as his heroes, while also praising Ravi Shastri, Sourav Ganguly, and M.S. Dhoni for their captaincy.
