This is Laxman’s first century (143 not out) against South Africa is his 15th in Tests. His previous best against South Africa was 89 at Port Elizabeth in November 2001.
Dhoni and V.V.S. Laxman were associated in an unbroken stand of 259 — India’s highest for the seventh wicket in Tests.
The Kolkata Test, now in progress has witnessed six centuries — the first instance in any Test involving India and South Africa.

Laxman is the first Indian to make 1,000 runs at Eden Gardens, amassing 1041 (ave.94.63) in nine Tests, including four hundreds and three 50s.
