It is unfortunate that no security cover was provided to Lt Gen K.S. Brar in London, where he was attacked reportedly by pro-Khalistan elements with an aim to assassinate him. Even after almost 30 years of Operation Blue Star, the top military personnel involved in it are being hunted down by pro-Khalistan groups. The government seems to have learnt no lessons from the assassination of the former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, and General A.S. Vaidya. It should ensure that all top army officers involved in the operation are provided the utmost security.

It is surprising and unbelievable that the NDA government withdrew the security cover provided to Brigadier Israr Rahim Khan, a key commander involved in Operation Blue Star (Oct. 3). The news is sure to set off a round of allegations.
But for the stabbing of Lt. Gen. Brar, the issue of security cover would not have reached public domain, just as the news of the construction of a monument for Bhindaranwale in the Golden Temple. Monuments are built for brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect the sovereignty of the country. Mixing of religion and politics will ruin the country.
