The northeast monsoon has led to an increase in water level in the Idukki reservoir. The water level had dipped slightly after the southwest monsoon.
There was heavy flow of water through the main tributary, the Periyar, and the catchment area received copious rainfall for over a week. The catchment area recorded rainfall of 2.6 mm on Thursday.
An official at the Dam Monitoring Cell at Cheruthoni said the water level in the reservoir on Thursday was 2,386.08 ft, one foot above the water level during the same day last year. He said the catchment area received good rain. Electricity generation at the Moolamattom power house on Wednesday was 71.85 lakh units, he said.
