Police shielding Asaram: victim’s father

September 07, 2015 03:03 am | Updated September 06, 2016 01:47 pm IST - Shahjahanpur:

The father of the alleged rape victim in the Asaram case on Sunday alleged that the State police had “ensured” that the self-styled godman’s name did not figure in the murder case of Kripal Singh, one of the crucial witnesses in his daughter’s case. Singh was murdered allegedly by the goons of Asaram.

The father of the victim told The Hindu that Kripal Singh had in his dying declaration said Asaram was responsible for the attack on him. Singh was attacked in Shahjahanpur on July 10 and died in a hospital in Bareilly the next day.

He was the ninth witness in the case against Asaram to have been attacked and the third to have died.

“I was present when Kripal Singh’s statement was being recorded in the hospital by the police officials. He mentioned Asaram’s name but sadly that never found mention in the FIR registered in the murder case,” he alleged.

Babloo Kuma, Superintendent of Police, Shahjahanpur, said: “Whatever Kripal Singh said was recorded by the police and he didn’t say Asaram was responsible for the attack.”

Narendra Yadav, a journalist who was allegedly attacked by Asaram’s followers for reporting the case, said that it was proven ‘beyond doubt’ that the two suspects in Kripal Singh’s murder were Asaram's followers.
