Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy launched a scathing attack against Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for belittling former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar, who was instrumental in the formation of separate Telangana State.

“When Mr Chandrashekhar Rao was on fast unto death in Khammam hospital, his daughter Kavitha called Meira Kumar on December 7 midnight and pleaded to save her father’s life. Meira Kumar immediately informed Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in this regard and accordingly made an announcement on December 9, 2009,” he stated. Ms Meira Kumar diplomatically responded to the plea made by his daughter, whereas Mr Chandrashekhar Rao was mocking her saying “Meira Kumar or Geera Kumari” at the press conference, he said.

The TPCC president, along with hordes of Congress leaders, visited Karimnagar on Monday to express their solidarity with TPCC vice-president Ponnam Prabhakar, who launched fast unto death demanding the sanction of government medical college in the town, which entered third day. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Mr Chandrashekhar Rao had approached the Court and shifted from Khammam hospital to NIMS for better treatment during the 2009 statehood movement. Now he also says that he would go to court against the GST, he noted. “But, if the Dalits, tribals and others approach the court, he blames the Congress party. Are the courts banned organisations? The people have every right to go approach courts for justice,” he maintained. He alleged that Telangana Jagruthi leader and TRS leaders had approached the courts on Singareni dependent employment and electricity outsourcing jobs respectively.

Stating that the Telangana State was formed for water, funds and jobs, he alleged that the funds have gone to the TRS leaders, jobs for KCR family and there was no water to the farmers. He charged that the government was unable to fill the vacant posts that remained in the integrated Andhra Pradesh in spite of three years of rule . Reiterating that the Congress would attain power in Telangana whenever elections are held, he said the Chief Minister and his family members would be chased away from the State. Terming the marathon press meet of the Chief Minister as full of lies, he ridiculed the TRS government for failing to keep any promise made to develop Karimnagar on the lines of London and New York. He also promised to sanction government medical college in Karimnagar after attaining power.

Legislative Council leader Md Shabbir Ali, Congress legislature party deputy leader T Jeevan Reddy, former MPs Mallu Ravi, Rajaiah, Youth Congress leader Anil Kumar Yadav and others were also present.
