Nayani Narasimha Reddy, sworn in as a Minister in K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s Cabinet, is the third Home Minister from Nalgonda district.
In undivided Andhra Pradesh, Alimineti Madhava Reddy from TDP held the portfolio from 1995 to 1999 while Congress’ K. Jana Reddy held the portfolio from 2004 to 2009.
Unlike the former two, Nayani Narasimha Reddy was born and brought up in Neredugommu village of Deverakonda mandal in the district but took to active politics in Hyderabad as he had migrated to Hyderabad in the 70s.
Born to farmer couple Devea Reddy and Subadhramma, Mr. Nayani still holds some agriculture land in the village which has been lent to a tenant farmer.
The house he lived in is in dilapidated condition as no one lives in it currently.
Sarpanch of the village, M. Parushuram, said that villagers are elated with the elevation of Mr. Nayani.
Locals say Mr. Nayani visits the village regularly and maintains close relations with his kin.
Slender marginIn politics, being loyal to the leader of the party always pays off. It does not matter whether you won the election with a slender margin or otherwise.
That proved right in TRS MLA elect from Suryapet Assembly constituency, Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy’s case, who is one of the members of KCR’s slim 11-member cabinet. He is expected to be offered the Panchayat Raj ministry now.
Although Mr. Jagadish Reddy won Suryapet Assembly constituency seat with a slender margin of 2,219 votes, he got a plum post.
It is said that Mr. Reddy has been maintaining close relations with the TRS chief.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s chief, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, had openly offered the Minister’s post to Mr. Reddy in an election rally in Suryapet, ahead of elections.
KCR keeps his promise“You just send Mr. Reddy to the Assembly, I will give him a good cabinet berth,” was the TRS chief’s appeal to Suryapet voters and he has kept his promise.
In the history of Suryapet Assembly constituency, no elected MLA was chosen for a ministerial post, but the induction of TRS MLA elect, Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy, broke the record as K. Chandrasekhar Rao inducted him into his Cabinet on Monday.
Since the formation of the constituency in 1952, elections were held 14 times to Suryapet. Peoples’ Democratic Front (PDF) had won the constituency the first three times, while CPI and CPI (M) had won once each.
TDP candidates had won the seat four consecutive elections from 1983 to 1994.
Representing Tungaturthy Assembly constituency in 2004, Ramreddy Damodar Reddy was a Minister before the 2009 elections in Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s Cabinet.
After delimitation of Assembly constituencies, Mr. Ramreddy moved to Suryapet, but he was denied a Cabinet berth by Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy though he is a five-time MLA.
The allotment of the Education Ministry to Mr. Jagadish Reddy also created history in Nalgonda because no MLA elected earlier was given the Education portfolio.
