Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has said efforts are on to bring in more transparency in works under Mission Kakatiya, the flagship programme of the TRS government in the State.
Interacting with newsmen here on Sunday, the Minister sought the cooperation of the media in making the ambitious programme, aimed at reviving the rural economy, a success. A tank brimming with water brings cheer to every section in the village. Farmers, artisans and cattle are all dependent on the tank, he said.
Mr. Harish Rao was here to campaign for the party candidate, Palla Rajeswar Reddy, in the ensuing Graduates Constituency Legislative Council election.
He said the State government was contemplating bringing the famous Laknavaram, Pakala and Rammappa tanks under the major irrigation category. As the tanks are prone to encroachments in urban and semi urban areas in view of increased real estate activity, the government will take steps to protect and preserve all the tanks. If a tank is found to be encroached upon, the government machinery will remove demolish the structures, he said.
In view of the election code in force, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao could not launch the Mission Kakatiya programme in Warangal. The pylon constructed for the purpose will be unveiled after the election to the Council.
To imbibe a sense of belonging, the State government is planning to involve all sections of people in society in the protection and preservation of tanks. To begin with, MLAs will be asked to adopt a tank each, he said.
