Parties accuse one another of distributing money and goodies; case booked against Uppal MLA

ours before the GHMC elections began, activists belonging to various political parties clashed alleging distribution of money and goodies by the candidates in different wards.

Mild tension prevailed at the Manikeshwarnagar area in Osmania University when Congress party leaders, under the leadership of former Mayor B. Karthika Reddy, obstructed TRS legislator Teegala Krishna Reddy alleging distribution of money. A minor scuffle broke out between the workers of both the parties. The Congress leaders then staged a protest in front of the Osmania University police station.

At L.B. Nagar, a scuffle broke out between Bharatiya Janata Party and Telangana Rashtra Samithi activists, as they clashed alleging distribution of money by the TRS party leaders at NTR Nagar. Some persons reportedly damaged the window pane of TRS legislator Teegala Krishna Rao’s car in the area. The police rushed to the spot and dispersed the activists of both the political parties.

Clashes were also reported between TRS and TDP-BJP activists at Mansoorabad ward in L.B. Nagar Assembly constituency and Moosarambagh.

The Jeedimetla police seized about 179 ceiling fans from a party office of one P. Anand Kumar, an independent candidate contesting from Suraram ward in Qutbullapur circle. A case was registered and the candidate was arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, the Uppal police registered two cases against Bharatiya Janata Party Uppal legislator N. V. S. S. Prabhakar and his followers on Monday.

The first case pertains to kidnapping a businessman B Anand of Miryalguda on Monday morning. According to the police, Anand along with his sister who is pursuing education in the city came to Ramanthapur area to search for a rented house.

While the siblings were at Nehrunagar, a few persons caught hold of Anand and took him to the legislator’s house. They found about Rs. 16,000 on him and alleged that he was distributing money to the voters, Inspector Uppal Y. Narasimha Reddy said. Based on a complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 363 (kidnapping) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code against the legislators and his followers. The other case was filed on a complaint made by a TRS leader Kumara Swamy. On a complaint made by him the police registered a case against the legislator and 10 followers.
