In a bid to raise awareness of the significance of voting in the upcoming assembly polls, which are scheduled on May 16, the Fisheries Department organised a programme in a novel way here on Sunday evening. With the aid of Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA), two divers dived into sea and collected 15 shells after taking their time underwater and such shells had the message ‘Vote on May 16’, said Assistant Director of Fisheries P. Isaac Jeyakumar.

The message was printed on the shells, which were given to people, who thronged at Pearl City beach here.

Besides, fishermen also raised awareness of the need for voting after carrying placards on board five boats at sea.

District Revenue Officer S. Murugaiah, Thoothukudi Sub-Collector and Returning Officer S. Gopala Sundara Raj, and Inspector of Fisheries T. Vijayaraghavan were present.
