Tension prevailed for a while at Panagudi on Tuesday night after an All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam platform speaker was allegedly assaulted by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam functionaries.

When Sundararaj of the AIADMK, while canvassing votes for the party candidate for Radhapuram constituency, I.S. Inbadurai at Panagudi on Tuesday night, reportedly unleashed scathing attack on DMK president M. Karunanidhi and party treasurer M.K. Stalin, a group of irritated DMK functionaries assaulted him and the driver of the autorickshaw in which the public address system for electioneering had been fitted.

As the duo informed about the attack on them to the AIADMK cadres and office-bearers, who were also on election campaign near Koodankulam, they rushed to Panagudi. They went to Panagudi police station and demanded the arrest of DMK candidate for Radhapuram segment M. Appavu and party functionary Gnana Diraviam.

While the Panagudi police registered a case based on the complaint from Mr. Sundararaj, they also registered another complaint against the platform speaker based on the complaint from Mr. Appavu.
