Tension broke out in Pallathur and Kotheri Road areas near here on Friday night, following a clash between DMK and AIADMK cadres and stone pelting in which AIADMK MP P.R. Senthilnathan suffered a head injury. Police said trouble broke out when a section of AIADMK men took a jibe at former DMK Minister P.R. Periakaruppan, who was in the centre of a controversy after an obscene video went viral in social media, when he was campaigning at Pallathur near here. In retaliation, the DMK cadres pelted stones at them after which, a group of AIADMK men staged a road roko near Pallathur bus stand. As they disrupted the traffic and refused to disperse, Deputy Superintendent of Police Muthamizh arrested them.

Mr. Senthilnathan, who was campaigning in Karaikudi, was informed of the incident, and he, along with his supporters, marched towards Kotheri Road, where Mr. Periyakaruppan, seeking re-election in Tirupattur, was campaigning. On seeing them, the DMK men pelted stones at them. Police have registered a case in this connection.
