Huge crowd at tourist spots in Vellore, Tiruvannamalai

Many popular tourist destinations in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai witnessed huge crowds on the occasion of ‘Kaanum Pongal’ on Tuesday.

Amirthi Zoo saw lot of visitors from the morning. According to Sumesh Soman, district forest officer, Vellore, there were a total of 6,348 visitors, including 1,101 children, to Amirthi. A total of ₹1,02,705 was collected from sale of tickets.

Highest collection

“This was the highest one-day collection and the highest number of visitors ever. There continues to be water flow in Amirthi falls, and this has also added to the crowd,” he said.

Vellore Fort too saw a steady flow of visitors. The Government Museum inside the fort received nearly 1,000 visitors. “We received a good number of visitors on Sunday and Monday too,” K. Saravanan, curator of the museum, said.

Another popular tourist destination in the district — Yelagiri Hills — also saw crowds during the festival holidays.

In Tiruvannamalai district, Sathanur Dam had lot of visitors. According to officials of the Public Works Department, on an average, 15,000 persons visited the dam on Tuesday.
