At a time when television channels are flooded with soaps revolving around family drama and crime, a historical series on emperor Ashoka has turned popular among viewers.
Combining history with entertaining plot-threads, Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat has struck a chord with viewers. The 100th episode of the series on Colors TV aired on Friday.
The serial explores Ashoka’s struggle as a child of emperor Bindusara, how he rose to power and finally what made him embrace Buddhism. For many viewers who have read or heard about Ashoka, the series provides a welcome break from the usual fare on TV.
M. Jayasri, a Tambaram resident, who watches the series regularly, says she started following it for the love of history. “There are few such series being aired now. I liked the performance of Siddharth Nigam who plays young Ashoka and also the dialogue delivery of the actors. I encourage my daughter to watch as it captures a slice of history,” she adds.
The 100{+t}{+h}episode has left viewers eagerly waiting to know if young Ashoka will be able to rescue his father Bindusara from a fire and how he becomes the third emperor of the Maurya dynasty. The series is being telecast from Monday to Friday at 9 p.m.
Post- season 5, the hangover

Kit Harington might have enjoyed the way the show depicted his death and that Olly was destined to kill him, but, not many Game of Thrones fans appreciated the ending. “With the constant hints about Snow being a Targaryen, putting an end to a character like his was unnecessary in the finale. It was for the sheer blaze of publicity” feels Dhyana Priyadharshini, student of Hindustan University. Despite the final episode clearly indicating the death of the character, many a spectator and critic are confidently predicting Snow’s return with theories flying galore.
Apart from that, Season 5 of Game of Thrones had a lot for of fans of Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen, as the two crowd favourites united in the pursuit of their aims. The season also marked a vital moment for two characters who have always polarised the audience — Stephen Dillane’s Stannis Baratheon, who was executed by Brienne of Tarth and Cersei Lannister, who is forced to take her walk of atonement. With all this drama, fans can barely wait for Season 6.
