Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Bhavani Singh in the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Friday said he had no objection to DMK leader Anbazhagan assisting him in the conduct of the trial.

In a written statement, the SPP said he had no objection to Mr. Anbazhagan assisting the prosecution as per Section 301(2) of Cr.PC. The statement was filed in response to Mr. Anbazhagan’s application seeking permission from the Special Court trying the case.

In his application, Mr. Anbazhagan had stated “the present SPP has come into the picture very recently and not fully conversant with the evidence and also the entire facts of the case,” while apprehending that “the SPP will not be able to assist the court to the fullest and is handicapped by ignorance of the full and actual facts due to his recent appointment.”
