Ornamental fish culture
Bio-Vision of the Department of Biotechnology and Botany Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi, organised a lecture on ‘Ornamental fish culture and entrepreneurship venture’ by B. Ahilan, Head, Department of Inland Fisheries, Fisheries College, Tuticorin, on June 28. The resource person explained the types of ornamental fish and their characteristic features and different techniques for culturing them. India, he said, had immense scope for ornamental fish trade. Singapore was ranked first in ornamental fish culture despite Malaysia being its water source. M. Sujatha, Head (in charge), Department of Biotechnology and Botany, welcomed the gathering. R. Narayana Prakash offered felicitations and T. Sriram proposed a vote of thanks.
Exploring future pathways
The Department of Commerce (Self-Finance) of the Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College for Women, Sivakasi, organised an outreach programme, ‘Exploring future pathways,’ for higher secondary Commerce students on July 2. M. Selva Kumar of Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College explained the various avenues for commerce students. KR. Gnanasambandam, Director, Aathma, Madurai, spoke about the importance of entrepreneurship. M. Jayalakshmi, Head of the department, welcomed the gathering and S. Gayathri proposed a vote of thanks. One hundred and forty three students from 11 schools attended the programme.
High voltage engineering
A faculty development training programme on ‘High voltage engineering’ was conducted by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Kamaraj College of Engineering and Technology, Virudhunagar, from June 28 to 30. R.V. Maheswari of National Engineering College, Kovilpatti, who inaugurated the programme, delivered a lecture on ‘Testing of power apparatus and insulation coordination.’ Anant Achary, Principal, offered felicitations.
Audio book preparation
The Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning (CTEL) and Department of Visual Communication of Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi, jointly organised a staff development programme on ‘Audio book preparation’ recently. B. Venkatesh, Assistant Professor, Department of Visual Communication, trained the participants in the use of Audacity free software and explained the methods of adding small musical notes in audio books to enhance the learning process. T. Marimuthu, Co-ordinator of CTEL, welcomed the gathering. Principal V. Pandiyarajan, in his presidential address, said that students could enjoy while learning their subjects if the books were prepared in audio format.
Bridge course for freshers
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Sri Sarada Niketan College for Women, Amaravathipudur, near Karaikudi organised a bridge course for freshers from July 12 to 16. It was inaugurated by S. Selva Rani, Principal. N. Kalaidasan, the resource person, trained 300 students in basic English grammar at the course.
Ramzan
celebrated
Ramzan was celebrated at Chandra National School, Aruppukottai, on July 5 with a play enacted by children on the bond of love, mutual respect and understanding and sharing. M.M.P.C. Saravanan presided over the celebration.
