Counselling for paramedical courses begins

Single window counselling for paramedical courses in the State began at the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research, Guindy, on Monday.

A total of 5842 seats across all paramedical disciplines will be filled by December 27. Students who are eligible under the physically handicapped quota attended the counselling on the first day. It is for the first time the single window counselling is being introduced for paramedical courses.

It is also the first time that the counselling is being conducted by the Board of Paramedical Education - constituted exclusively to select candidates for admission to various diploma and certificate courses. Director of Medical Education V. Kanagasabai said the board, which has its office on the King Institute campus, would function under the control of the Directorate of Medical Education.

A total of 23 types of paramedical diploma and certificate courses will be conducted in 17 government medical colleges, the Institute of Child Health, King Institute and the Government Dental College.

6000 applications

A total of 6000 applications had been received and after scrutiny, eligible applicants were invited for counselling, said S. Savithri, director, King Institute.

Of this, a total of 1585 seats are available under the two-year paramedical diploma courses, 12 seats under the two-year paramedical certificate courses, 15 seats under one-year paramedical diploma courses; 4220 seats under the one-year paramedical certificate courses; and 10 seats under the 6-month paramedical certificate courses.

Counselling for admissions to diploma course will be held until December 13; while that for certificate course will be held between December 15 and 20; and separate counselling for the nursing assistant course will be conducted between December 21 and 27.
