As part of computerisation of civil supplies run fair price shops, “POS - devices are being integrated in all PDS shops in the district. Over 1,094 POS devices will soon be integrated to all fair shops here.

Distribution through the POS device would eliminate complaints, and ensure transparency, says R. Rajendran, the District Civil Supplies officer. While the electronic weighing system would continue, the billing will be integrated by the POS device.

The POS device is linked to the mobile number of the card holder. The minute the ration goods are issued and billed against the card, card holder receives an alert. According to the DSO, this would enable transparency against complaints of siphoning of ration goods against cards. For now, the POS devices are given to 1,058 cooperative department run fair price shops and 36 for TNCSC fair price shops. There are 570 salesmen in the district. They are being trained to this integration to POS device.

The family card data base is being fed into the machine to integrate the data.

The system is being integrated by Omni Agate System, a private technical consultant.
