Stating that the chairman of Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry (BCTNP) D. Selvam had taken unilateral decisions without consulting the 24 members, K.R.R. Aiyyappamani, president of the Disciplinary Committee of the council, has submitted his resignation here on Wednesday.
Addressing media persons, Mr. Aiyyappamani, who is also the secretary of Salem Advocate Bar Association, said that Mr. Selvam had participated in the meetings of the Rules Committee of the High Court that had amended the Advocates Act, 1961.
“He failed to get the opinion of all the members of the council and kept everyone in dark,” he added. Mr. Aiyyappamani blamed Mr. Selvam for taking individual decisions and said that he acted against the collective views of all the members.
“Since I did not agree with his decision, I resigned as the president of the Committee. But will continue to be a member,” he added.
The council has eight committees and Disciplinary Committee is one among them. Of the total 25 members, one resigned last week owing to personal reasons.
Last week, Mr. Selvam had announced that the council would initiate action against lawyers who boycott courts and stage agitations protesting the amendments made to the Act.
