Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday said the issue of granting Leader of the Opposition (LoP) status to the Congress was before the Lok Sabha Speaker. There were no LoPs during the regimes of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, he added.
Mr. Naidu said the issue had to be decided by the Speaker and conventions and precedents to be followed. The government was ready for discussion on each and every issue of national importance, Mr. Naidu said.
