The Ganjam Superintendent of Police (SP) Narasingha Bhola has handed over this case to the Human Rights Protection Cell of the police department.

To ensure free and fair enquiry of the case, inspector in charge of Jagannathprasad police station Divyalochan Behera, against whom custodial death allegation had been made, was transferred.

The victim of this alleged custodial death case is Gourahari Swain of Patadhar village. According to sources, on charges of theft, the police had taken Gourahari into custody on Monday night. But on Tuesday morning he had to be admitted to a local hospital for treatment. He died while undergoing treatment.
