BJP councillor attacks man with sword

The Ujjain police on Thursday arrested a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor for allegedly attacking a man with a sword.

A case under section 307 (attempt to murder) was registered against thim.

According to the first information report (FIR) filed by the victim, the councillor, Mangilal Kadel, allegedly attacked him following an altercation in front of the victim’s house, said Sachin K. Atulkar, Ujjain Superintendent of Police.

History-sheeter

Former State Cabinet Minister Paras Chandra Jain told The Hindu : “The victim is a history-sheeter and sold illicit alcohol in the area. During the scuffle, the councillor was also injured.”

The SP clarified that the other cases registered against the victim in the past had no relation to the current incident.
