A 28-year-old nurse was allegedly gang-raped by two persons at The Oberoi hotel here on August 15. Both the accused were arrested after the woman informed the police late on Sunday night.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) P. Karunakaran said the woman worked for a private nursing and healthcare firm and had been hired to look after the elderly mother of the hotel’s owner. The accused, added DCP Karunakaran, were also hired by the owner as attendants for the ailing lady.
According to the police, while the two men, later identified as Neeraj (25) and Rajan (20), stayed in the hotel premises, the woman had a shift job.
In her complaint, the victim told the police that she met Neeraj and Rajan at the suite where the patient was staying. “On August 15, she reported for duty at 8 a.m. and just as she was leaving after finishing her [12-hour] shift, the duo took her to the servants’ quarters of the same suite. It was there that they took turns to rape her,” said a police officer.
Following the nurse’s complaint, a medical examination was conducted which confirmed rape. On Monday morning, Neeraj and Rajan were arrested.
