On entering Kollam district leading the Janakeeya March of the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Monday, party State secretary Kanam Rajendran had a meeting with the relatives of the comrades who had lost their lives in the historic Sooranad Revolution.
Among those present were Gopikuttan, the son-in-law of Sooranad Martyr Paikalil Parameswaran Nair, martyr Paikalil Gopala Pillai’s daughter Indiramma, life convict Chatahkutty’s daughter Sarojini and Ambiyil Jarandharan Nair’s (who was convicted to life imprisonment) wife Saraswathy, Thoppil Bhasi’s daughter Mala. The Sooranad revolution was the inspiration behind Thoppil Bhasi’s drama ‘Ningalenne Communistakki.’
Addressing a gathering, Mr. Rajendran said the CPI could never forget the path through which it had traversed over the decades. He said it was the Sooranad Revolution which provided the base for the Communist Party’s growth in Central Travancore those days. The party comrades had strongly resisted the brutalities of the police during the revolution.
