Regular students travelling in buses during the entire duration of their course, including holidays, will have to pay a minimum fare of Re.1 for the initial 2.5 km; Rs.1.50 for up to 7.5 km; and Rs.2 for up to 12.5 km; as per a Kerala government notification increasing bus fare from Saturday midnight.
Fifty paise will be added to the minimum fare for every 5 km over and above the minimum distance of 2.5 km. The students’ concession will be allowed in city, town, ordinary mofussil services, and limited stop ordinary services for a one-way journey of 40 km from their houses to the educational institution. Students will have to produce the identity cards approved by the government.
In ordinary, mofussil services, including city, town services and city fast, the distance that can be travelled for the minimum fare of Rs.6 is 5 km; for fast passenger and limited stop fast passenger, the distance is 5 km for a minimum fare of Rs.8; and for superfast service, it is 10 km for a minimum charge of Rs.12.
The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) can reduce the fare by 15 per cent in inter-State services for Super Express and other upper class services during the lean months of February, March, June, July, and October when passenger traffic is less.
The KSRTC can raise the fare by up to 10 per cent in inter-State Super Express and upper class services above Super Express during the peak season months of April, May, August, September, November, December and January.
The KSRTC can issue season tickets to regular passengers for a minimum of one month, allowing concession for 25 per cent on the regular fare. The season tickets will be issued on select routes.
