Saritha S. Nair, an accused in the solar scam cases that rocked the previous Congress-led government, has decided to enter the electoral fray to “expose the real faces of some of the candidates it has fielded and also the hollowness of the party’s campaign about women safety.”

Ms. Nair, who filed her nomination papers from the Ernakulam parliamentary constituency on Wednesday, also has plans to contest from Wayanad, from where Congress president Rahul Gandhi is seeking mandate.

“I am an accused in a few economic offences. But isn’t rape a far graver offence? The Congress candidate in the Ernakulam constituency is an accused in a rape case,” she said.

Women’s safety

In Ernakulam, Ms. Nair wants to raise the issue of women’s safety. The voters should deliberate on the question of women safety in the constituency, she said.
