The Election Commission (EC) has decided to hold repolling in one booth at Kalamassery in Ernakulam district. The date would be announced soon, Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena said on Wednesday.

At booth number 83, election officials had failed to clear the mock poll votes from the machine before the actual election. In the final tally, there was a difference of 43 votes. While 715 votes were cast, the voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machine displayed 758 votes.

‘‘The mock polling was conducted before the actual election on Tuesday. But the presiding officer failed to clear the votes from the machine,’’ Mr. Meena said.

On whether any action would be initiated against the official for oversight, he said that an inquiry would be held after the repolling was completed.
